DWORSHAK RECEIVES SIGMA BETA DELTA FELLOWSHIP AWARD

Each year, the Sigma Beta Delta Fellowship program awards over 20 fellowships, ranging from $1,000 – $1,500, to qualifying members for use in their academic studies. Each local chapter nominates one new qualifying Sigma Beta Delta (SBD) member for the awards each academic year. This year, Allisha Dworshak, a senior at Dickinson State University (DSU) was chosen to receive the prestigious award. SBD is an international honor society for students in business, administration, and management that seeks to recognize scholarship among students while promoting personal and professional improvement and encouraging service to others. Dworshak embodies the principles of academic excellence and service to others. As Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership program participant, she has volunteered more than 90 hours for local charities and organizations, has tutored at the local high school, and assisted in community service projects. After graduation from DSU, Dworshak plans to pursue a graduate degree in law.

 

BARNHART NAMED CSTAND’S CREATIVE ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Margaret Barnhart, longtime Lecturer of English for the Department of Language & Literature at Dickinson State University (DSU), was recently notified that she has been named the 2018 Creative Artist of the Year by the Communication, Speech, and Theatre Association of North Dakota (CSTAND). The award recognizes an individual’s creative achievements in the fields of communication, speech and theatre. Introduced by Don Ehli—friend, DSU colleague, and former Creative Artist of the Year award recipient—Barnhart accepted the distinction at the CSTAND conference banquet Sept. 14, 2018.

 

CHAPMAN AND FARSTVEET INDUCTED INTO NAIA FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME

On Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2018 Hall of Fame inductees. Among those selected were two former Blue Hawks athletes Paul Chapman (’89) and Rory Farstveet (’92). Their selection marked the first time Blue Hawk football has been recognized in the NAIA Hall of Fame (HOF). The NAIA HOF induction ceremony will take place at the 2019 American Football Coaches Association’s Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 6-9, 2019.
