Record Fall Enrollment at WSC

Record fall enrollment continues at Williston State College with 1,124 registered students according to census totals released Tuesday, September 18.

Of this fall’s enrollees, 893 students are from North Dakota while 124 are from Montana. The remaining 107 come from several other states, Canada, and other countries.

Headcount increased by 2.4% from Fall 2017 and the overall full-time equivalent (FTE), a calculation that shows how many students would attend if all were full-time, and total credit hours represent a WSC registration milestone. Both FTE and credit hour numbers increased 5.5%.

WSC Prioritizes Mental Health

Since starting at Williston State College in 2014, Leah Hoffman, WSC’s Mental Health Counselor, continues to play an integral role in developing WSC’s mental health focus.

A Williston native, Hoffman has a BS and an MA in Addiction Studies and is working toward her PhD in Health Sciences from the University of South Dakota (USD).

Her goal is to transform her public health research – focused on access to rural substance abuse prevention and treatment – into effective programs and initiatives to improve individual, family, and community wellness.

This July, Hoffman was selected as one of USD’s Class of 2018 “30 Under 30” in recognition of her work in and outside of the classroom.

A High Note for WSC Music Program

This school year started on a high note for the Williston State College Music Program when it received a second annual donation from First National Bank and Trust in Williston.

The donation, totaling $1,568.64, will be used to purchase a new drum set. Last year, First National donated $1,608.99. The funds purchased a new mellophone for the music program.

“Students benefit from these donations because we are slowly building an inventory of instruments they can access,” explained Dr. Kyle Norris, Associate Professor of Music and the Director of the WSC Music Program. “The mellophone is used by the Teton Athletic Band and the drum set will be used by all the ensembles on campus: the Teton Athletic Band, Concert Choir, Williston State Community Orchestra, and WSC City Band.”
